The Kansas Auto Racing Museum, Chapman Kansas, is worth a stop on the trip across Kansas on I-70. It's just a short drive off the interstate to the museum.

According to their website,
the
museum is home to the first NASCAR trophy. The first NASCAR event was won by
Jim Roper of Halstead, Kansas on June 17th, 1949 at Charlotte Speedway.
The
museum is also home to the first NHRA trophy which held its first national event
in Great Bend, Kansas in 1955. The first NHRA trophy is also on display at the
Kansas Auto Racing Museum. The first NHRA event was won by Paul Flynn of
Abilene, Kansas.
