GRAND PRIX RACING IN ARIZONA, USA

 

ARIZONA:  The Phoenix Grand Prix ran a road course through the city from 1989-1991. 

June 4, 1989:  The first Phoenix, Arizona Grand Prix was run on a road course throught downtown Phoenix.  Winner was Alain Proust in a McLaren-Honda MP 4/5

Complaints about the heat (100 degrees plus) prompted a move to March.

March 11, 1990: The second Phoenix Grand Prix was run.  Winner was the late Ayrton Senna, in a McLaren-Honda MP 4/5B

March 10, 1991: The third and last F1 race in Arizona was won again by Senna, driving a  McLaren-Honda MP 4/6.
